Getting to Know Poggio
Cycling rally
Since 2006, an amateur, non-competitive Mountain Bike rally has been held, open to everyone who wishes to take part (children, young people, adults and families), organised by the Pro Loco Association and the Circolo Ambra, in collaboration with the Municipality of Poggio a Caiano and "A Ruota Libera".
The rally is usually held in May, with a route of about 12 km, starting and finishing in Piazza SS. Rosario, passing through and crossing the main surrounding localities, with the aim of helping people get to know our territory better.
It runs on a route almost entirely off busy roads, except for small stretches necessary to cross them or to move from one part of the area to another.
The start generally takes place from Piazza SS. Rosario (the church square) at around 9.30am (registration meeting point from 8.30am to 9.15am), passing through the localities of "I' Parco del Barco", the hamlet of "Poggetto – sports ground area", "La Palagina", "Mastrigalla", "Le Torri", "Poggetto sports ground", "Madonna del Violo", "La Petraia", "I' Granaio", "Le Casacce", "Poggiali", "S. Cristina in Pilli", "Lombarda – Rio di Calcinaia area / Fattoria Ambra", "Candeli", and a section of the "historic centre", finishing around 11.30am/12.00pm back at "Piazza SS. Rosario".
All participants will be offered, at registration, event gadgets, in addition to the refreshment point located near the Poggio a Caiano sports ground – via Granaio/via U. Foscolo, where, besides practical assistance, personal help and encouragement will also be offered.
After the finish, inside the premises of the "Circolo Ambra", the organisers, and in particular the Circolo Ambra itself, will offer all participants a hot snack.
